The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 67-year-old Ibrahim Ado, who was confined to a room for 20 years.
Spokesman for the command, Mr. Mohammed Jalige, told journalists Wednesday that the man was allegedly locked up in a compound on Bayajidda/Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Kaduna north local government area of the state.
Jalige said the incident was reported to the police by community health workers who were on duty on Bayajidda by Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Kaduna.
After receiving the information, Jalige said the commissioner of police, Mr. Yekini Ayoku, ordered the command and the divisional police officer in charge of the area to lead operatives to the scene and bring out the man.
He said the commissioner also ordered the police to find out from the people in that community why the man was subjected to that condition for so long.
Jalige said the 65-year-old stayed in that room where he ate, urinated and did every other thing all by himself.
“When we went to the scene, we found the man naked. We gave him clothes to wear, brought him out, and took him to a hospital for medical evaluation,” he said.
He further said the commissioner had ordered a full scale investigation to unravel the true situation and cause of the inhuman treatment meted out to the victim.
He said the investigation had begun adding that the command had invited five persons to assist the police in the investigation.
“We were made to understand that the man had children and a wife who were nowhere to be found. The people we met in the compound and the neighboring houses, we believe will assist us in getting the true position of the whole scenario.
“We will work together with the medical doctors to obtain their report on the man’s health status. What matters now is to get the man alive and make him comfortable, and we have succeeded in doing that,” he added.
