Runway rehabilitation: FAAN denies diverting int’l flights to neighbouring countries

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied reports of a proposed diversion of flights to Ghana and Cotonou during the repair of the runway at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Acting spokesperson of the agency, Mr. Faithful Hope-Ivbaze said in a statement that rehabilitation of runways 18R/36L is slated for June 4-5, 2022 between 0600hrs-1300hrs UTC daily.

However, she said flights will operate pari passu with the work.

“During this period, Runway 18L/36R will be in use for all inbound and outbound flights operations as scheduled while maintenance will be ongoing on Runway 18R/36L.

“Management also wishes to reiterate to our esteemed travelling passengers and the general public that inbound and outbound flights at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport will be operating unhindered,” she said.
