The Senate President and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Kwara Central, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has lost his third-term bid to return to the senate in 2019.
Saraki lost to All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the senatorial district, Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe.
Oloriegbe polled 123, 808 votes to defeat the senate president who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local government areas of the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
Besides, the APC won in the remaining two senatorial zones.
But Saraki’s man Friday and representative of Kogi west senatorial district, Mr. Dino Melaye of the PDP won his re-election.
The returning officer, Prof. Emmanuel Bala announced in the early hours of Monday in Lokoja that Melaye polled 85, 395 votes to defeat Mr. Smart Adeyemi of the APC who scored 66, 901 votes.
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara made it back to the national assembly for the fourth time as he was declared winner of the Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State.
Dogara of the PDP had a total of 73,609 votes to defeat his opponent from the APC, Mr. Dalhatu Kantana, who got 50,708 votes.
There was a major upset in Anambra State as football promoter and chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, emerged the first elected senator for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Nigeria, beating the Uba brothers, Andy and Chris.

The result was announced early Monday morning at Uruagu Nnewi North Council headquarters.
His closest rival, Chris Uba of the PDP got 62,462 votes; Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 51,269 votes while the incumbent senator, Andy Uba of the APC got 13,245 votes.
Anambra state is controlled by APGA.
In Anambra North senatorial district, the former minister of aviation and incumbent senator, Ms. Stella Oduah was declared winner
Declaring the result on Monday in Onitsha, the returning officer, Prof. Hugh Maduka, said Oduah of the PDP polled 113,989 votes to defeat 20 other candidates.
He said Mr. Emmanuel Chinedu of APGA came second with 59,937 votes while Mr. Nelson Onubogu of the APC emerged third with 11,995 votes.
Still in Anambra State, the PDP candidate for Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife defeated the incumbent senator, Mr. Victor Umeh of APGA.
Ekwunife, it would be recalled, was in the national assembly from 2010 to 2014 under the platform of the APGA.
The returning officer for the senatorial district, Prof. Charles Ogu, who announced the results on Monday, said that the PDP candidate polled 18,412 votes ahead of APGA’s 14,403.
The APC which fielded Mr. Sylvester Okonkwo came third with 1,144 votes.
Similarly, Mr. Valentine Anyika of the PDP won the House of Representative seat for Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency.
Anyika polled 16,084 to defeat the incumbent APGA lawmaker, Mr. Dozie Nwankwo who came second with 14, 582 while Mr. Elijah Onyeagba of the APC came third with 2, 574.
In Delta State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC) declared the PDP candidate, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu as the winner of Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency.
Announcing the results in Asaba, the returning officer, Dr. Ignatius Ezoem, Elumelu polled 84,615 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr. Paul Adingwupu of the APC who scored 11,086 votes.
He said Elumelu won overwhelmingly in all the four local government areas that make up the constituency.
Ezoem said Elumelu scored 20,335 while Adingwupu scored 1,861 in Oshimili North local government area, adding that Elumelu polled 13,485 votes in Aniocha North local government area while the APC candidate got 3,438.
In Ogun State, the incumbent governor and senatorial candidate of Ogun Central, Mr. Ibikunle Amosun was declared as the winner of last Saturday’s national assembly election.
Announcing the results in Abeokuta on Monday, the returning officer, Prof. Ayinde Akanbi, said Amosun polled 88,110 votes to defeat the candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADP), Mrs. Tunji Oseni-Gomez who had 37,101 votes.
He also said Mr. Solomon Sanyaolu of the PDP came third with 33,276 votes while Mr. Gbenga Adenmosun of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) had 10,039 votes.
In Lagos State, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila of the APC and Mr. Olatunji Soyinka of the PDP emerged winners of Surulere Federal constituencies l and ll the election held last Saturday.
INEC’s returning officer for Surulere federal constituency 1, Prof. Adetola Daramola, who announced the results on Monday said Gbajabiamila won with 14,617 votes; Mr. Adewara Michael of the PDP followed with 8085 votes while Mr. Folami Abiola of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) came third with 97 votes.
“At the end of voting, Femi Gbajabiamila of APC has satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes and is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” she said.
For Surulere federal constituency 11, the returning officer, Prof. Ade Ibiwoye announced that Soyinka polled 19,950 votes; Mr. Lanre Okunlola of APC came second with 17,910 votes while Mrs. Ferguson Blessing of ANP got 628 votes.
“Olatunji Soyinka, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” said the returning officer.
For the Ondo central senatorial district, the former governor of the state and candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko lost to PDP candidate, Mr. Ayo Akinyelure.
ThisDay reports that Mimiko came third in the election in the results released by INEC.
According to INEC, Akinyelure scored 67,994 votes; the incumbent senator and candidate of the APC, Mr. Tayo Alasoadura, got 58,092 votes while Mimiko had 56,628 votes.
