The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has intensified its search for a Miss Adetutu Adedokun, believed to have been a staff of the Department of State Services (DSS), who jumped into the Lagos lagoon on Thursday, November 10.

According to reports, she had alighted from Uber taxi car on the bridge and plunged into the lagoon Thursday afternoon.

The taxi driver claimed she was having a heated conversation with her fiancé before alighting from the car.

Channels Television quoted sources in the DSS office to have revealed that she was an unarmed combat instructor who stepped into the shoes of her parents who worked with the secret police.

Few months earlier, Adedokun who was in her late 30s, was said to have received a letter of commendation from the director general of DSS as the best-unarmed combat operative in her set.

Few weeks ago, her fiancé proposed to her in a video that has gone viral.

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said yesterday that the search and rescue team was still on the water trying to locate Adedokun’s remains.

He said emergency responders had given up on a rescue mission and was now battling to recover her body from the lagoon.

Oke-Osanyintolu added that investigations had failed to produce the driver of the car that she was in prior to the unfortunate incident.

In his ‘Update on alleged suicide attempt on Third Mainland Bridge’, the permanent secretary said: “The body of adult female, identified as Adetutu Adedokun that was reported by eyewitnesses to have jumped into the lagoon is yet to be recovered.

“The lady is said to be a staff of the Department of State Services.  Investigations have failed to produce the driver of the car that she was in prior to the unfortunate incident.

“The response team has changed from rescue to recovery and is now observing the tide and is relying on locals for any useful information. Further updates to follow.”
