The federal government has begun a re-organization in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) with the sack, demotion and redeployment of some directors and general managers.
News Gazette gathered that the action followed the recommendations by the Presidential Committee chaired by the head of service, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita.
It was further gathered that no fewer than 10 general managers were demoted to their appropriate grade levels.
Although names of the affected staff could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, News Gazette further learnt that as of 6 pm officials of the ministry were still in FAAN’s boardroom compiling names.
It was also learnt that a general manager in the department of finance was demoted from Grade Level 17 to 10 and moved to the Information Communication and Technological department (ICT).
It was also learnt that some of the general managers did not, ab ignitio, possess the required qualifications to man some of the sensitive positions they held.
Some of them, including some deputy general managers, were said to have left the university ten years ago and could not have qualified for the offices they held.
Equally shocking was the revelation that some staff employed between 2012 and 2013 completed their one year compulsory national service between2008 and 2010 and were given management positions without the requisite experience.
It was also gathered that while the managing director was spared in the re-organisation, virtually all the directors were either demoted or sacked.
Some of the affected officers were demoted from Grade Levels 17 and 16 to levels 10, 12 and 14.
News Gazette also gathered that after the proper staff placement, some directorates would return to their former status.
The directorate of legal services, which was a department in the managing director’s office, was created alongside the directorates of cargo, projects and human resources. The new exercise would see the directorates of human resources and administration come together; the directorate of project will merge with engineering directorate while the directorate of cargo will revert to the directorate of commercials.
