The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Labour Party (LP) candidates as winners of three house of representatives seats in the national assembly election held in Lagos, Enugu and Kaduna states on Saturday, February 25.
In Eti-Osa federal constituency, Lagos, INEC declared Mr. Thaddeus Attah as winner.
According to NAN, the INEC returning officer, Ms Funmilayo Odukoya, announced the results on Sunday evening at the collation centre, Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, Marwa, Lekki Phase 1.
Attah won with 24,075 votes, beating Mr. Banky W of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 18,666 votes.
Odukoya said Oladehin Olufemi of the African Democratic Congress received 1,422 votes; Azeez Kabirat of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 414 votes while Olasunkanmi Ololade of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) garnered 207 votes.
“That Thaddeus Attah of LP, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned elected; signed by me. Thank you so much,” Odukoya said.
In Enugu State, LP candidate for Nsukka-Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Mr. Mark Obetta, emerged as winner.
The returning officer for the constituency, Mr. Romanus Nwachukwu, who announced the results yesterday, said Obetta polled 50,881 votes to defeat his main rival, Mr. Vitalis Abba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 19,347 votes.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC), Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwuja, got 1,003 votes.
Mr. Pat Asadu of the PDP is the current representing the constituency.
He lost the party’s ticket to Abba, erstwhile chairman of the party in the state during the PDP primary held in May 2022.
In Kaduna State, LP candidate for Kaura Federal Constituency, Mr. Donatus Matthew, was declared as winner.
Announcing the results on Sunday evening, the returning officer, Prof. Elijah Ella, said Matthew polled a total of 10,508 votes to defeat the incumbent minority chief whip of the house and PDP candidate, Mr. Gideon Gwani, who gathered 10,297 votes.
He said the APC candidate, Prof. Benjamin Gugong, came third with 9,919 votes.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Matthew, thanked the electorate for electing him.
Also reacting, Gwani, congratulated the member-elect and wished him well.
He urged his supporters to remain calm and accept the will of the electorate, noting that “God gives and takes power to and from whomever he pleases at the appropriate time.”
