The acting president, Prof, Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the director general of the Department of State Service (DSS), Mr. Lawal Daura.
The sack is believed to be connected to the siege to the national assembly complex by masked SSS operatives on Tuesday.
Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, disclosed Daura’s sacking on his Twitter handle, @akandeoj.
“Ag P Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura” he wrote.
It would be recalled that the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, had called an emergency meeting of the leadership of the senate and the House of Representatives of the national assembly possibly to consider the supplementary budget of the president and interact with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The meeting was summoned days after some lawmakers called for the reconvening of the national assembly in order to attend to some urgent matters of state.
It was the first meeting since the national assembly went on recess two weeks ago, following heated political manoeuvrings trailing the defections in the parliament.
But by 6am, police personnel and masked SSS operatives who claimed to have been acting on “orders from above” had laid siege to the national assembly and lawmakers who came with the hope of attending the meeting were denied entry into the assembly complex.
Besides, journalists who went to cover the deliberations of joint session of the legislature as well as national assembly staff were barred from accessing the complex.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied its involvement in the invasion of the national assembly by the police and SSS personnel.
In a statement signed by its acting national publicity secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena, in Abuja, on Tuesday, the APC said what happened at the national assembly was purely a “legislative matter.”
“Our attention has been drawn to mischievous attempts in some partisan quarters to link Tuesday’s developments in the national assembly to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“While the party is monitoring the developments in the National Assembly like every other concerned Nigerian and stakeholder, there is absolutely no basis for all the false allegations and attempt to blame the APC national chairman for the development there. It is strictly a legislative matter,” said APC.
