The minister of aviation and aerospace, Mr. Hadi Sirika, yesterday announced reorganisation in some and aviation agencies and creation of the directorates of public affairs and consumer protection, corporate services and aviation security.
The minister said in a statement that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the reorganisation in line with the new acts of the national assembly which he (the president) assented to and gazetted recently.
He explained that the creation of public affairs and consumer protection directorate “is to put the Agencies on their toes in terms of adequately addressing complaints by their respective stakeholders and oversee the public affairs / protocol, consumer protection, SERVICOM and anti-corruption departments while the aviation security directorate in the NCAA will regulate the activities of the AVSEC personnel, especially with their recent arms-bearing status.
“The corporate services directorates are to oversee the procurement and planning, research and departments,” Sirika said.
Consequently, he the president approved the appointment of the erstwhile regional general manager, central region airports, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and chairman of the aviation roadmap implementation committee, Mr. Kabir Mohammed as the new MD/CEO of FAAN.
He takes over from Capt Rabiu Yadudu.
Mr. Tayib Odunowo has been appointed the substantive managing director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
He takes over from Mr. Matthew Pwajok who served in acting capacity for more than 12 months.
According to the release, Pwajok would revert to his substantive position as director of operations of the agency.
He also said the directors-general of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Mr. Akin Olateru; the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof Mansur Matazu and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt Musa Nuhu are to run the remaining course of their tenures in line with the acts setting up their respective agencies.
However, the rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria, Capt Alkali Modibo was granted a one-year extension, also in line with the Act setting up the College.
To reposition the agencies for optimal statutory performance, Sirika also approved the appointment of some new directors for FAAN, NCAA, NSIB, NAMA and NiMet.
In FAAN the new directors are human resources and administration, Mr. Shehu Mohammed; commercial and business management, Mr. Olumuiwa Femi-Pearse; and corporate services, Mr. Azubuike Okorie
The others are general manager (statistics), Mr. Kingsley Uchechukwu and general manager (special duties), Mr. Jemilu Abdulrahman
In NCAA, the director of airworthiness standards is Mr. Gbolahan Abatan; aerodrome and airspace standards, Mr. Godwin Balang, operations, Capt. Ibrahim Danbazau; air transport regulations, Mr. Olaniyi Saraku; public affairs and consumer protection, Capt. Chris Najomo; aviation security, Air Cdr Hambali Tukur; corporate services, Mrs. R. M. Daku.
The others are company secretary/legal adviser; Mrs. Mary Tufano; general manager (audit), Mrs. Dawa Gyaks; and general manager (accounts), Mr. Aminu Tasi’u
In NSIB the director of finance and accounts is Mr. Ori Bassey; public affairs and consumer protection, Dr James Odaudu; corporate services, Mr. Oliobi Ikemefuna, transport investigation, Capt Tosin Odulaja while the company secretary/legal adviser is Mr. Illitrus Ahmadu.
NiMet has Mr. Saleh Yusuf as the director of human resources and administration; Mr. Daniel Chibueze, weather forecasting services; Mr. Ahmed Sanusi, public affairs and consumer protection; and Prof Effiong Oku, research and training.
In NAMA, Pwajok is the director of operations, corporate affairs and consumer protection directorate is headed by Mr. Khalid Emele; corporate services has Mr. Uchendu Oji as its director while Mrs. Amaka Ude-Walker is the general manager, public affairs.
All the appointments, according to the statement, take immediate effect.
