The police on Friday granted the representative of Adamawa North in the senate, Mr. Elisha Abbo, bail after meeting a set of administrative conditions.

The senator spent night in custody after he was caught on video slapping a nursing mother at adults’ sex toys shop in Abuja.

Spokesman for the FCT police command, Mr. Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed that Abbo was released after meeting certain conditions.

However, did not disclose the specific terms of the bail but the lawmaker is expected to report to the Abuja police command next week for further questioning.

“He was released on bail, but he is expected to come to the Command from time to time because investigation is still ongoing.

“He would keep in touch with the investigators; so, it is not as if he is out of the woods. He was merely granted bail, the investigation has not been concluded,” said Manza.

Asked if the Command would file charges against Abbo based on the evidence from the video which showed him assaulting a woman at an adult sex shop in Abuja, Manza said the outcome of the investigation would determine if criminal charges would be filed against the senator.

The lawmaker had visited the police command on Thursday in response to the police summons and was taken into custody as part of investigation into the incident.

A video which went viral all over social media had shown the lawmaker hitting a lady following some misunderstanding at the adult toy store.

The inspector general of police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, had earlier ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

He said the FCT police commissioner, Mr. Bala Ciroma is to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation including the forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions and inactions of the policeman seen in the video footage.
