Professor of econometrics and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday won the primary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for the governorship election of Anambra State holding on November 6, 2021.
The sixty-year-old CBN governor from 2004-2009, along with the other aspirants, had earlier yesterday been disqualified by a faction of the party headed by Mr. Jude Okeke.
However, the national chairman of the party, Mr. Victor Oye, told the public to discountenance the purported disqualification.
“APGA has no factions. We are one, united party. Ask those parading themselves as acting chairman which convention produced them? I am the only constitutionally, legally and legitimately elected National Chairman of APGA. It is not in contention,” he said.
At the primary conducted at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka by the Oye-led faction of the party, Soludo polled 740 votes to defeat three other aspirants, Mr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo who scored 41 votes, Mr. Damian Okolo seven votes, and Mr. Ibeh Kenechukwu Christopher, four votes.
In his reaction after the poll result was announced, the state governor, Mr. Willie Obiano said Soludo’s emergence was a sign that APGA remains a united family.
He assured that APGA would win the November 6 poll and congratulated all party members for the peaceful conduct of the primary.
