Statistics released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) show that the southwest, south-south, north central geopolitical zones are top on the COVID-19 chart in Nigeria.
The southwest, according to the data recorded 17,744 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, representing 50 per cent of the 35,454 total cases nationwide as of Friday, July 17.
The NCDC also stated that the region recorded 4,016 (27.4 per cent) out of the 14,633 discharged nationwide, and 249 (32.3 per cent) out of 772 deaths in the country.
In the region, Lagos had the most number of cases at 13,226. The NCDC said 1,958 had been discharged while 176 had died.
The south-south followed with over 5,200 cases, representing 15 per cent of total COVID-19 cases and over 160 deaths (22 per cent).
The north central came third on the table with over 4,300 cases (12 per cent), including more than 1,500 discharged (10.8 per cent) and over 90 deaths (11.9 per cent).
The northwest recorded more than 3,700 confirmed cases in total (10.6 per cent) with over 2,800 discharged (19.6 percent) and over 125 deaths (16.5 per cent).
Conversely, the southeast had over 2,200 total cases (6.3 per cent), with over 1,370 discharged (9.5 per cent) and more than 40 deaths (6.2 per cent).
The northeast was the least endemic region with over 1,800 cases (5.3 per cent), over 1,580 discharged (11 per cent) and more than 85 deaths (11 per cent).
