The League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) yesterday elected a new executive with a correspondent for Blueprint Newspaper, Mr. Suleiman Idris as the chairman.
Idris succeeded the aviation correspondent for Independent, Mr Olusegun Koiki.
The election which took place at the Saleh Dunoma Press Centre at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, also saw the emergence of a reporter for Daily Trust, Mr Abdullateef Aliyu as vice chairman, Messrs Anthony Awunor of Thewill Newspaper and Lamidi Bamidele of Vanguard as secretary and treasurer and respectively.
Also elected were Mrs Ifeoma Okeke-Keriocha of BusinessDay and Mrs Pearl Ngwuama of Justice News as assistant secretary and auditor.
The new LAAC executives who were sworn in by the LAAC electoral committee chairman, Mr Franklin Ihejiirika, are expected to serve for a period of three years in the first instance.
In his inaugural speech, Idris thanked all the members for electing him and pledged to collaborate with aviation industry stakeholders to improve the development of the sector.
He urged stakeholders to continue to collaborate with LAAC as the industry is in dire need of positive narrative.
“As the purveyor of development in the industry, LAAC will continue to scrutinize and join hands in the development of the sector as journalists.
“I am ready to take advice and if you have any that will move the association forward, please bring it up”, he added.
The league is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a body reporting the aviation industry.
