Nigeria’s Super Eagles lost to Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final match played at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday.

The Nigerian side lost 1-2 to the host nation.

The Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, put Nigeria in the lead in the first half but the Elephant came into the second half with an equalizer by Franck Kessie and another goal by Sebastian Haller.

With today’s victory, Coast has won the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time, drawing them level with Nigeria’s three titles.

Ivory Coast’s previous triumphs came in 1992 and 2015.

This is the first time the host has won the AFCON tournament since Egypt did so in 2006.
