Terrorists operating along a highway in Zamfara State have abducted eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were on their way to the orientation camp in Sokoto State
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday, August 19.
It was further learnt that the corps members journeyed on AKTC bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State en route Zamfara State to take part in the mandatory national service when their vehicle was intercepted along the Zamfara highway.
According to reports 11 corps members were kidnapped but three escaped while eight and the driver of the bus were whisked away.
A source said the incident had been reported to the security agencies.
A Facebook user, Malachy Blessed, at about 9:14 a.m. on Sunday disclosed in a Facebook post the identity of one of the abducted corps members as Emmanuel Esudue, a graduate of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University.
Another victim has been identified as Betty Udofia.
A Facebook user, Edidiong Richard, said the kidnappers contacted Udofia’s parents and demanded N4 million as ransom.
The Guardian quoted the spokesman for the Zamfara State police command, Mr Yazid Abubakar, as saying that he was going to verify the incident.
