The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2020 National Common Entrance Examination results showing that only three students scored above 190.
They are Umeonyiagu Chinua Crucifixio (Anambra State) who scored 199, Onwuamanam Udochukwu, (Enugu State), 198 and Salaam Mariam Aderemilekun, (Lagos State), 197.
The minister of education, Mr. Adamu Adamu disclosed this while receiving the results of the examination from the registrar of NECO, Prof Godswill Obioma in Abuja on Monday.
The minister announced that the national cut off mark for admission had been pegged at 142.
“As has been the tradition for decades, the admission criteria include 60 per cent strictly on merit, 30 per cent based on state’s representation in the unity colleges and the remaining 10 per cent to cover other sundry considerations such as special needs candidates, gender, local community and biological children of teachers, PTA, SBMC and old students organisation.
“I have therefore, directed that within 72 hours of the receipt of the result, principals are to complete both the merit based (60 per cent) and 30 per cent equality of states admission,” the minister said.
He also stated that with the unity colleges now 110, admission carrying capacity had been shored up to 26,625 for the current academic year.
He added that 720 slots were added with the establishment of six more federal science and technical colleges across the six geopolitical zones.
Meanwhile, Obioma, said a total of 70,580 candidates sat for the examination nationwide, out of which 24,416 candidates passed, scoring a minimum of 66.
He said 16,713 candidates were absent from the examination due to the #EndSARS protests that rocked the country recently.
