Three suspected electric cable thieves nabbed at Lagos Airport

Operatives of aviation security’s crime investigation and intelligence (CII) unit, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) have arrested three suspected cable thieves in the precincts of the Lagos Airport.

Spokesman for FAAN, Mr Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua said in a statement that two suspects were caught today (Friday) around FAAN Training School while digging and cutting electric cables connecting the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport powerhouse to the domestic terminal.

According to the spokesman, the third one who serves as a link between the two and buyers in Arena Market, Oshodi was apprehended at hajj and cargo terminal following confessions made by those arrested earlier.

“Ongoing investigation revealed that one of the suspects was convicted and sentenced to 28 days imprisonment for a similar offence, sometime in April, 2022.

The suspects are presently being interrogated by officials of FAAN AVSEC after which they will be handed over to the Police for prosecution,” Yakubu-Funtua said.
