The minister of education, Mr. Adamu Adamu has directed the permanent
secretary in the ministry, Mr. Sonny Echono and the director of basic education,
Mr. Lami Amodu to probe the worst results recorded in the 2019/2020 National
Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) as two pupils scored one mark each.
The minister who gave the directive after receiving the results of the exam from the acting registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Mr. Abubakar Gana in Abuja also disclosed that six pupils, who scored 191 each out of 200 marks, got the highest marks in the NECO-conducted examination.
He said the results would be used for admission into the 104 unity schools nationwide.
He said the criteria for the 2019/2020 admissions include, merit, 60 per cent, equality of states, 30 per cent and other factors, 10 per cent but candidates who applied for schools outside their states of origin would be given priority.
He said admission would commence on May 14 with the first batch of admission coming as from the first week of June.
Supplementary admission takes place between July 13 and 20 July while the schools resume in the second week of September
Meanwhile, Gana said 75,834 candidates registered for the examination while 73,347, including 18 visually impaired pupils sat for it.
