Two lawmakers, who are under 35 years, have emerged Oyo and Plateau speakers of the respective house of assembly.
In Oyo State, Adebo Ogundoyin, 32, and two-term People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Ibarapa East State Constituency, was elected as the speaker of the 32-member parliament.
Ogundoyin, who is an alumnus of Babcock University, Ilesan, Ogun State, came to the 8th Assembly in 2018 after he won the bye-election held following the death of the former speaker, Mr. Michael Adeyemo on April 27, 2018.
His election as speaker was unanimous through a voice vote of the 32 members of the Assembly.
There are 26 members of the PDP, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) has five and Action Democratic (ADP), one.
Ogundoyin who is an agronomist by profession is a fan of Manchester United.
In Plateau State, a member representing Jos East constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Abok Nuhu, was elected speaker while the immediate past deputy speaker, Mr. Saleh Yipmong, representing Dengi Constituency, was returned.
Nuhu, 34, is a 500 Level Law student of the University of Jos, and a fresh member, while Yipmong is serving his second term in the House.
Nuhu was nominated for the post by a four-term member representing Jos North-North Constituency, Mr. Baba Hassan, who was equally interested in the seat.
Nuhu’s nomination was seconded by Simi Dusu representing Jos North-West.
The nomination was unopposed following which members unanimously elected Nuhu speaker.
Acting Clerk of the House, Mamven Wuyep, inaugurated the 9th assembly.
