The 1990 Communication Arts Class of the University of Cross River State (now University of Uyo) is set to hold its inaugural convocation on December 11 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Interim spokesman for the class, Mr. Joseph Itah disclosed this in a statement issued at the end of a zoom conference held recently and attended by alumni in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
Itah who coordinated the meeting said the inauguration would bring the 1990 alumni both in Nigeria and in the diaspora together for the first time after 30 years.
“Details of this novel activity will be released in due course. But it promises to be fun-filled with…throw-back discussions, jokes and good music…” he said.
In the convivial lecture entitled ‘Stronger together: The praxis of social networks’, Prof Godwin Bassey of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) emphasised on the importance of staying together and suggested ways to sustain the growing bond and relationship among the alumni.
He used religious, philosophical and motivational quotes from the Bible and Aristotle to hammer his points home.
He said the reunion “is an opportunity for us all to run a reality check on ourselves as we wind down in the challenging and exciting lane of life.”
He underscored the benefits of the reunion to include health rewards through sharing of health tips and loosening of tension; co-fraternization that may lead to deeper mutually rewarding relationships, linking to job opportunities; creation of viable social networks, and rendering of any form of practicable support for one another when such need arises.
At the end of the conference, a committee comprising Itah, Bassey, Dr Aniebo Sampson, Messrs Brian Etuk, Omini Odeng and Timothy Antigha was set up to draft house rules as well as organise the convocation.
Meanwhile, Itah has been touring Uyo, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Benin, Owerri, Abuja among some other cities to meet and brief cluster members about the event.
He has also been liaising with the diaspora alumni.
