Aviation unions, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) chapters, have given the agency’s management December 2021 as deadline to settle all issues regarding workers’ deductions, pension contributions, remittances, gratuity, among others or risk industrial action.
The unions include National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and National Union of Pensioners (NUP).
In the letter entitled ‘Notification of resolution of congress’ addressed to the FAAN managing director, Capt Rabiu Yadudu dated August 26, 2021 and copied the minister of aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, the unions said they had waited for so long for the issues to be addressed but to no avail.
The letter reads: “We are obliged to inform management that workers and pensioners of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) held a Congress on Tuesday the 24th of August, 2021 in Lagos where issues of serious concerns to staff and pensioners which are equally of importance to the Agency were discussed and mandates were given our unions to execute.
“Having waited for too long for the lingering issues affecting staff and pensioners’ welfare to be positively resolved without success, management is hereby notified of the following resolutions by congress:
“FAAN Management must within the next seven days remit all outstanding cooperative deductions, and continue to deduct and remit as and when due. All pending furniture grant must be settled latest by the end of December 2021, the National Minimum Wage and Consequential Adjustment Implementation must commence by the end of September 2021, and the outstanding arrears paid in line with the statutory commencement month of April 2019.
“All due staff gratuity must be fully settled at the end of December 2021. The long overdue staff actuarial valuation must be conducted and concluded within the next 30 days and remittances of outstanding Staff Pension Contribution.”
