The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said its enhanced surveillance has made the country’s airspace safer
The acting director general, civil aviation, Capt Chris Najomo made the remark during the annual New Year prayer held at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja.
The prayer session which is held every January 2 was also used to kick-start the series of activities to mark the silver jubilee of the NCAA.
Najomo said President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and the five-point agenda of the minister of aviation and aerospace development have the agency the impetus to perform more.
“We are going to continue performing more. Our directors are on ground,” he added.
He recalled how some airlines were sanctioned recently for delaying passenger compensation.
“Anything that will make every airline comply, we will do. You can see recently we had to sanction some airlines and they accepted their sanctions.
“We sanctioned five airlines because they refused to pay refund tickets and they have agreed that they will pay on time,” Najomo said.
He told the staff his focus was deliver on his core job functions as well as meet his performance target, stressing that he would not be distracted by the sponsors of fabricated and fake stories.
“The attacks are not affecting my work. There are no distractions because I’m resolute in doing what I’m supposed to do,” he said.
Najomo also said the confirmation as substantive director general of the NCAA is at the prerogative of the president.
“When it comes to the time, he will do the needful. For now, it’s not distracting me. I’m doing my job,” he declared.
