The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to a trending video of the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, dancing on a cruise ship in one of the Caribbean countries saying it is only prosecuting, not persecuting him.
Fayose, who is standing trial for alleged corruption and money laundering, is on a medical checkup but he was pictured lounging on one of the Caribbean Islands.
The ex-governor who was granted permission by a court to travel to South Africa to attend to his health and is expected to appear in court on January 16, 2020 for the continuation of his trial was also shown in a video dancing salsa with a Caribbean ‘queen.’
Lauretta Onochie had posted the video on her twitter handle, commenting in a sarcastic manner: “It’s a miracle! Peter is healed! Praise The Lord! Doctors can work wonders sha. Ayodele Fayose on medical dancing therapy. This means he’s no longer in severe pain and we won’t be seeing him on stretchers during his next court appearance or on his way to jail. Thank you Doctors.”
Fayose reacted via his tweeter handle @GovAyoFayose warning those sharing or commenting on issue to mind their business.
“These “hailers”, when I was on their case, they were crying. Now I’m on my own lane enjoying my life, they are still crying & sucking. Expect more so you can cry more. I’m on medical check up not admission. Celebrating New Year is my right, haters can hug transformer,” he wrote.
Reacting to the development, Mr. Tony Amokeodo, spokesman for the acting chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, told Premium Times in an interview that said since Fayose’s trial is still on, the EFCC can only wait till he returns on the next adjourned date for the continuation of his trail.
“We are not going to react to that video (on) the grounds that the EFCC is prosecuting him, not persecuting him.
“Besides, the court granted him permission to travel abroad for medical attention. We are of the opinion that the former governor would have to be in court and that his trial is on course. And we will definitely meet him on the next adjourned date,” he said.
