The commissioner, Banjul Accord Group Accident investigation Agency ( BAGAIA), Mr. Charles Erhueh has attributed the sub region’s zero accident record to the implementation safety recommendations by the body and other independent accident investigation agencies.
Erhueh stated this at the closing ceremony of the BAGAIA Technical Committee (T2) meeting held in Accra, Ghana.
He appreciated the completion of harmonising the agencies’ policies and procedures manual to enable it work seamlessly all over the sub-region
He said the advantages of the harmonisation are enormous.
“We know other countries in the region will take a cue to strengthen BAGAIA. in the long run, all the training we do, the equipment we procure and benefits accruable are measured in terms of hull loses and other major accidents.
“That statistics of zero accidents will not be possible if BAGAIA and other independent agencies’ safety recommendations are not taken into account and we hope the kind of partnership formed along the sun region will reduce incidents and accidents and improve travel as well as remove members from various blacklists and reduce insurance premiums because of the safety of the skies,” he said.
On the completion of the technical committee’s work, Erhueh noted: “So far, we have been able to harmonise our policies and procedure manual and at the same time out into perspective a lot of advantages that we at BAGAIA hope will be achievable at the sub region.”
In his remarks, the commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau, Ghana, Mr. Prempeh Agyeibi, thanked the sub-regional organisation for its support and expressed appreciation for picking his country as host for the technical committee meeting.
BAGAIA was set up to *ensure, in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) global aviation safety plan, the establishment of an adequate funded, professionally trained, independent and impartial aircraft accident investigative body within the BAG Sub-Region,
*enhance cooperation and collaboration among member states, with respect to investigation of aircraft accidents and serious incidents and
*enhance cooperation within the BAG Sub-Region and internationally, with respect to the sharing of information on accidents and incidents, among others.
