World leaders have arrived in Abuja for today’s inauguration of Nigeria’s president-elect, Mr. Bola Tinubu and his deputy, Mr. Kashim Shettima.
A delegation of President Joe Biden of the United States is led by the secretary for housing, Ms Marcia Fudge.
The US Mission in Nigeria announced the arrival of the nine-man team yesterday via @UsinNigeria: “Welcome to Nigeria! We are excited to receive the delegation from @POTUS Biden, led by @SecFudge from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, as they join us in Abuja for the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The delegation of the Canadian government is also on the ground.
The Canadian High Commission via its official Twitter handle, @CanadaInNigeria said the delegation is led by the country’s minister for housing, diversity, and inclusion, Mr. Ahmed Hussein.
“Canada in Nigeria is delighted to welcome The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, to Nigeria, for the presidential inauguration ceremony of President-Elect, H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
“Canada and Nigeria share strong bilateral ties, and Canada looks forward to continuing collaborating with Nigeria on shared priorities, including trade opportunities and regional security, through the leadership of the new president.
“While in Nigeria, Minister Hussein will meet with representatives of civil society organisations, youth, and international partners regarding Nigeria’s efforts in promoting inclusion and respect for diversity,” the commission tweeted.
African presidents of Niger Republic, Ghana, Burundi and Senegal, among others are also in the country to grace the event.
