The students’ union government of Yaba College of Technology has pledged to deploy diplomacy and dialogue in addressing the challenges confronting students in the school.
The union’s president, Mr Morakinyo stated this said during a three-day retreat held under the theme: ‘Building a Foundation for Quality Administration.’
He said the event was to foster dialogue, collaboration and strategic planning among the three arms of the student union.
He said it was important that the union and the students collaborate to build a solid foundation for excellence.
Morakinyo further said the retreat was aimed at bringing together the executive, judiciary and senate council to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
“Throughout this event, the students’ union leaders engaged in insightful discussions, workshops, and activities to lay the groundwork for a more robust and inclusive student governance system.
“Their active participation and contributions are crucial as they chart the course for a brighter future for their beloved institution.
“This is a regime that is termed the transformation regime, which implies that we support the students’ growth, identify their challenges and advocate for their needs at all times, without being confrontational, but through diplomatic engagement and dialogue,” he said.
He commended the dean of students’ affairs Mr Alaba Olalekan, who according to him “recognises the importance of student unionism and welfarism on campus and has always been a good listener and a father to all students.”
Besides, he praised the rector of the college, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul saying he is a listening administrator who ensures that “the voices of our students are being heard and their concerns and needs and expectations are being met.”
“This is another way to foster peace and unity on campus, and to also contribute to the growth and development of the college,
“With this, we believe we are building future leaders that will understand their roles in community development and nation building,” he said.
