The immediate past governor of Oyo State Abiola Ajimobi has died in Lagos, a family source told The Guardian newspaper.

He was 70 years old.

He was the governor of Oyo State between 2011 and 2019.

As it happened some days ago, nobody was willing to confirm his death but Vanguard said in its report that one of the security men who served the deceased for eight years confirmed the death saying “it is real this time.”

Ajimobi, who was born on December 16, 1949, was on a life support machine since last Friday at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos.

He had COVID-19 related ailment and was rushed there after he reportedly fell into coma.

The paper also quoted an ‘impeccable source’ as saying that the news Ajimobi’s death was kept away from the public because of the new appointment by the national working committee of the APC as acting national chairman of the party.

“It is true this time around. It was hidden before because of the political development within the party,” said the source.
