Aero Contractors had between January and August 2025 refunded to its customers a total of N257, 195,724.39.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr Michael Achimugu, disclosed this in a post on X.
He said the amount increased from N108, 308, 037.40 and N32, 766,652.30 reported over the same period in 2024 and 2023 respectively.
On hotel accommodation (HOTAC) for passengers, Achimugu further said the airline spent N6, 083, 229.00 during the period in review – January to August 2025.
He said the figure is verifiable from Cocos Hotel, Grand Cubana Hotel, Abuja, NOCY Castle Hotel, Kim Royal Hotel, JC42 Apartment (Asaba), Mayor & Diplomat Hotel, Lagos.
“These figures cut across most of the airlines. This is one of our proudest achievements, knowing that more passengers are being protected now than ever before, in the 25-year history of the NCAA.
“The figures show that there is a remarkable improvement in compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023,” he said.
The refund was occasioned by flight cancellations and other inconveniences caused to airline passengers.
Part 19 of the Regulations spells out the minimum rights and responsibilities of passengers, and the obligations of airlines, travel agents, and tour operators to passengers, covering issues like denied boarding, flight delays and cancellations, and lost or delayed baggage.
It specifies the responsibilities of airlines, travel agents, and tour operators to passengers.
The part addresses various consumer protection issues, including compensation for overbooking and denied boarding, handling of flight delays and cancellations, procedures for lost or delayed baggage, assistance for persons with reduced mobility (PRM), and support for aircraft accident victims and their families.
While acknowledging the peculiar challenges of our operating environment, Achimugu said the Authority will continue to protect the rights of all stakeholders.
“In the same vein, we must also protect airline staff and cabin crew against every form of violence and assault.
“May safety continue to be the foundation of the industry as we grow towards the attainment of world class service across board,” Achimugu added.
