The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad on Monday swore in 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and warned them against disobeying court orders.
The lawyers were conferred with the rank as a mark of excellence and for having distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.
Out of the 72 successful recipients, 62 are advocates, while the remaining 10 are from the academic.
The conferment which formed part of activities marking the commencement of the 2020/21 new legal year, was performed by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, accompanied by 16 other Justices of the Supreme Court.
He said the conferees emerged successful from a total of 172 earlier shortlisted.
He urged them be more committed to their work and the legal profession, an attitude he said earned them the rank in the first place.
Among the new senior lawyers were the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Prof Bolaji Owasonye and the attorney general and commissioner for justice in Delta State, Mr. Peter Mrakpo, Obafemi Adewale, Chukwuemeka Nwagwu, Abdullahi Yahaya, Robert Emukpoeruo, Boma Alabi, Osayaba Giwa-Osagie, Muhammad Nda Nusa, Terkura Pepe, among others.
