The former director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr Harold Demuren has confirmed to feature as the lead speaker at the forthcoming Conference and Awards of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) slated for July 17, 2019 in Ikeja, Lagos.
Speaking in an interview with the Conference and Award Committee in Lagos, Demuren commended the league for the impact it has made on the industry over the years through its annual conferences and seminars.
He specifically saluted the League for “putting us, stakeholders on our toes to do the right thing that will help the industry.
Demuren will be sharing his wealth of experience after years of serving in both public and private sectors of the aviation industry, as he speaks on the conference theme: ‘Boosting aviation investment through policy.’
Demuren is an aeronautical engineer with over four decades of experience in the aviation industry.
While serving as the NCAA boss, he played a significant role in the reforms in the Nigerian aviation sector.
It was during his term that Nigeria attained the United State Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Category One Certification.
Besides, he introduced safety reforms to enhance professionalism and transparency in both operations and aviation business in the country.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Kiev Institute of Aeronautical Engineers in the former Soviet Union and a Doctor of Science degree in the field of gas turbines, specialising in aircraft jet engines, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Beside Demuren, chief executive officers in the aviation agencies would also be part of the panel of discussants where issues relating to the industry would be discussed.
The chief executive officer of Med-View Airline, Mr. Muneer Bankole, will serve as the chairman of the occasion, while major stakeholders especially in the airline sub-sector would also play key roles.
No fewer than 250 participants from airlines, government agencies, ground handling companies, financial sector, aviation support service and other major stakeholders within and outside the country are expected at the 2019 edition of the conference.
Key stakeholders made up of individuals and corporate organisations who had distinguished themselves in the industry will be honoured with various awards at the event.
The minister of state for aviation is expected to be the special guest of honour, while chief executive officers of aviation agencies as well as private service providers would equally play major roles.
Other expected dignitaries include the chairman of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema, Chairman, managing director of Arik Air, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu, managing director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Capt. Hamisu Yadudu, commissioner of Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB); Mr. Akin Olateru, director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Muhtar Usman, Capt. Roland Iyayi of Top Brass Aviation, president of Aviation Round Table (ART), Mr. Gbenga Olowo, among others.
