As international flights resume on September 5, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has solicited the support of the Lagos State government for improved safety, security and better service delivery at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
FAAN’s managing director Capt. Rabiu Yadudu made the plea when he and his management staff paid a courtesy visit to the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Alausa, Ikeja.
Yadudu stated that the brand new international terminal under construction at the airport through counterpart financing from the China Eximbank would be completed and commissioned for use before the end of the year.
Besides, he mentioned road expansion MMIA/GAT/MM2; rail project, possible link to Lagos station; Shasha/Ajao encroachment/commercial concerns; donation of co-buses (apron buses); evacuation of mechanic village (on Oshodi Road) as some of the issues the agency would want to state government to look into.
The managing director applauded the governor’s developmental programmes adding that Lagos being Nigeria’s economic nerve would have been the 7th largest economy in Africa if it were a country.
He commended Sanwo-Olu for growing critical infrastructure across the state stressing that the completion of the various people-centred projects particularly the Oshodi/Ajao Road to the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport is evidence of delivery on campaign promises.
