Masked men on Friday stormed the hospital where the representative of Kogi West in the senate, Mr. Dino Melaye, was receiving treatment and took him away.

It was gathered that the masked men forced the lawmaker, who was on the hospital bed, into an unmarked vehicle and drove him to an undisclosed location.

Melaye’s close associate who confirmed the incident said the lawmaker was whisked away around 2pm in a commando style.

A source said the senator was taken to Lokoja, Kogi State, where he would be interrogated for alleged shooting of one Sgt. Danjuma Aliu by his (Melaye’s) suspected political thugs.

But another source hinted that the lawmaker was taken to a medical facility belonging to the Department of State Security (DSS).

It would be recalled that the lawmaker turned himself in on Friday, January 4 after a one-week standoff with the police who invaded his Abuja residence to arrest and take him to Kogi State to face charges of conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide.

But he was rushed to a hospital following asthmatic attack on his way to the office of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).

On Monday, January 7, the police said Melaye “is in sound health and fit to stand trial.”

An assistant inspector general of police, medical, Mr. Kaomi Ahmadu said at the Police Hospital, Garki, Abuja, where the senator was receiving treatment said Melaye had been certified fit to stand trial in the case of alleged attempted culpable homicide preferred against him by the force.

“All this long, we have been managing him and thank God he is in good health now.

“At any moment, if there is any course for us to invite a specialist or take him to a specialist centre, we oblige him.

“He also has a respiratory rate of 20 per minute; so, by and large, he is in sound health,” he said.
