The former commissioner for works in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen has said that the days when political office holders were elected to the national assembly to receive retirement benefits are over.
Inyangeyen who resigned his appointment to vie for 2023 Eket senatorial district (Akwa Ibom South) seat who spoke in an interview in Uyo however said the essence of going to the national assembly is to bring the dividends of democracy to the electorate
He said in an interview in Uyo that he has “all it takes” to represent the senatorial zone if he is given the mandate, adding that he was interested in the senate seat not for personal gains but for the overall benefits of his people.
The senatorial aspirant urged the electorate in the zone to elect somebody who knows the issues concerning them to represent and attract development as well as empower the people.
“At this point in my life, I no longer want anything for myself. God has blessed me. I have finished training my children. They are adults. The reason I want to go to the senate is not for personal gains, not for my children, but for our children and our senatorial district.
“Gone are those days we used the Senate position as a retirement benefit to settle or compensate people and when they get there, they do not contribute anything or make an impact.
“Come 2023, we must send someone to the Senate who is very competent, capable, qualified ,a go-getter , a voice, a good communicator and someone who understands very well the urges of the people,” he said.
Inyangeyen further stated that he is one politician, among a horde of other senatorial aspirants in the zone who “has the right spirit to represent Eket Senatorial District and attract to the people dividends of good representation from the senate.
“As a government appointee, I did it for the people. If elected as a senator, I will do even more.”
