The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Tuesday announced the sack of four of its personnel and sanctions 32 others for various offences.
Although the service did not disclose the offences committed by the officers, it however stated that the action was taken as part of efforts to rid the system of undesirable elements and reinforce the federal government’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
Spokesman for the agency, Mr. Tony Akuneme, who announced the development in a statement said 14 officers were demoted after appearing before the orderly room trial committee of the service.
Akuneme said four other personnel were discharged and acquitted, while two were redeployed.
He added that 11 officers were issued warning letters while one was compulsorily retired.
According to him, 11 personnel were still awaiting trial before the Committee.
“The comptroller general of immigration is assuring the general public that there are no sacred cows in the NIS as all offenders shall be appropriately sanctioned.
“He is also urging members of public to be vigilant and support the Service to deliver more on its mandate,” he added.
