The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has re-opened Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The runway was partially closed after an incident involving a Gulfstream 4 aircraft operated by Skybird.
FAAN said on Wednesday, September 12, the Gulfstream aircraft marked 5N-BOD overshot the runway while landing and got stuck on the Runway End Safety Area (RESA).
The agency said the incident caused delays to incoming flights.
Consequently, FAAN announced a partial closure of the runway while airlines diverted their flights to Kano and Kaduna.
Following a successful evacuation of the aircraft, FAAN said it had reopened the runway for aircraft to land and take off.
“Following the partial closure of Runway 22, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 2200hours yesterday, September 12, 2018 due to an incident involving a Gulfstream 4 aircraft being operated by Skybird that overshot the Runway while landing and consequently got stuck on the Runway End Safety Area (RESA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has now reopened the Runway to take arrivals and departures, subject to a reduced threshold of 3000 metres,” said spokeswoman for FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu in a press statement.
