President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to close ranks and work for the victory of the party at the 2019 polls.
The president who made the appeal after submitting his presidential nomination form at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Thursday said he was seeking re-election to continue serving the people to the best of his ability.
“I am here in person among friends and colleagues to put my name forward to my party the All Progressive Congress, seeking nomination to contest the presidential election next year.
“Fellow party members I am taking this step with all humility , sense of responsibility and I am the unquestionable desire to serve the interest of all Nigerians I’m really grateful to dozens of organsiations who came together and contributed funds to purchase these forms. I assure them and the rest of Nigerians that if nominated and if elected I shall continue to serve you to the best of my ability.
“Let me today appeal to party members not to be complacent; but to prepare, strategise and win 2019 election. We must not allow those who brought the country to its knees from 1999 to 2015 to come and take us back.”

It would be recalled that Buhari had on Tuesday received the forms valued at N45m from a group of his supporters under the aegis of the National Consolidation Ambassadors of Nigeria (NCAN).
The group said it purchased the forms for him arguing that Nigeria needs Buhari to continue to provide the leadership he has been providing since he became president in 2015.
The purchase of the nomination forms by the group generated concerns in the media with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vehemently criticising the action.
However, the APC defended the president saying no law was violated adding that funds for the president’s nomination forms were raised by supporters who want him back in office in 2019.
