The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appointed nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to defend the results of the February 25 presidential election.

The team will be led by former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud.

Other members of the legal team include Stephen Messrs Adehi, Oluwakemi Pinheiro, Miannaya Essien, and Abdullahi Aliyu.

Also, four other senior advocates who are staff of INEC’s legal department will join the team alongside Messrs Garba Hassan, Musa Attah, and Patricia Obi.

Recall that on March 1, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the presidential election.

However, Messrs Peter Obi  of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have contested the results by filing petitions against INEC and the president-elect at the presidential election petition tribunal.
